COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE PROGRAM

The counseling and guidance program has at its core the goal of providing services to promote the emotional, social and academic well-being of its students.  Students are provided, through an extensive, varied and comprehensive array of services, educational information and different perspectives on life’s situations in an effort to help them make responsible decisions.  Although counseling and guidance professionals may assist at times with discipline, discipline is not intended to be a primary function of the program.  Rather, it is anticipated that an offshoot of the counseling and guidance services provided will be students who are better able, through support, to adjust more appropriately to and within the school environment.

Counseling services, individual and group, are many pronged, and address academic, social, emotional and behavioral issues.  Support and encouragement is provided in the self-awareness and self-improvement process.  The focus of counseling sessions may involve educational concerns, personal issues, alcohol or substance abuse problems, family problems and/or interpersonal relationships.  Group counseling theme offerings are diverse and have included, at various times, anger management, grief/loss, stress reduction, children of divorce/separation, improving relationships, etc.  Social skills training groups are also accomplished at each building.
